Pain Therapy the Tone-A-Matic Way

You never think of pain as being something good (how could it be? You’re suffering!) but it’s actually crucial to your well-being since it’s your body’s natural way of letting you know that something is wrong.

Pain can be categorized as:

  • Acute pain: this typically comes on suddenly – as a result of soft tissue damage – and though it doesn’t last long (no more than 6 months), it is very intense.
  • Chronic pain: this is pain that lingers, even after the injury has healed. You can experience pain as a result of the injury months, sometimes even years, later.

Traditional treatments for pain relief include medication or surgery; however, there may be people who do not wish to be reliant on medication for relief or incur the risks of invasive surgery. Fortunately, there are alternative treatment methods.

One such method is TENS or Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation, which is effectively the use of continuous, low-frequency electric currents to stimulate the nerves. It not only blocks the pain signal from traveling to the brain, but also releases endorphins, thereby giving the individual relief and improving their mood. The benefits of TENS include:

  • Instant pain relief
  • Treatment of muscle injuries
  • Faster recovery period

Other methods include Microtherapy Current (the application of low levels of electrical stimulation), which can be used for providing pain relief and promoting tissue healing in joints, ligaments and muscles; and Interferential Current (IFC), effectively a deeper form of TENS.

Whatever your need for pain relief might be, know that there are options beyond the traditional means available to you. You can learn more about these options here.
